Or maybe she just seems to be handling the whole breakup a lot better than you are. In my view there are several factors at play here. Her attachment pattern plays an important role If your ex has moved on seemingly quickly, it may have to do with her attachment pattern , which might very well be anxiously attached. What they observed is that anxiously attached individuals are naturally pessimistic about their chances of finding someone else. The authors found that by changing the outlook of these anxiously attached individuals from being pessimistic about their prospects of finding a new partner to being optimistic, the feelings of longing for their ex-partners could be reduced. How could this outlook be changed from pessimistic to optimistic? As the authors admit, a rebound relationship, for one, could have that effect, but also simple optimistic suggestions could result in reduced feelings of longing as well.

When Your Dream Relationship Turns Into Your Worst Nightmare Many men have had the experience of entering what they thought was their dream relationship only to find out months down the road that their dream had turned into a nightmare. This woman may have appeared to be the dream partner that you had spent your lifetime looking for, someone who truly understood you the way no one else ever had. The bond that you formed with her may have been the strongest you have ever felt for another human being, and you may have very quickly been convinced that this was the person you wanted to spend the rest of your life with.
But what you might not have known is that the woman you were dating probably started out in the relationship by idealizing you. You also might not have known that she chose to only show you the qualities she believed you would like and may have hidden the qualities she feared would cause you to reject her.
Men are almost, always peddled as cheaters and liars. Thankfully many women know that’s a blanket statement and not true–in most cases. And in the cases that it proves true, you can bet that there is an equal share of gals who have succumbed to the same temptations.

I give a lot of positive feedback, compliments, and advice to family, friends, and my girlfriend. She has struggled with her confidence in the past because she is very skinny. Before we became a couple, I constantly complimented her on how beautiful she looks to lift her spirits. The problem is that I am more in love with who she is internally she is smart, funny, caring, loving, and super supportive and not particularly attracted to her externally—but she would never know that based on my many compliments.
This is something that should be shared in confidence with your therapist. It could only hurt. Our parents are best friends, so she has always been a fixture in my life.

I feel that by keeping her in his life, he is being slightly disrespectful to me, as she clearly still has some kind of hold over him for him to put up with this. Please help before I drive myself mad!!!!! At the heart of the issue, this sort of thing stems from your own fears. Fear that she might do something to screw up your relationship with him. Fear that she might take advantage of him and you want to protect him from that. While these are all legitimate fears, remember that they are your fears and therefore your responsibility in terms of handling them.
The fact is that just about any high-quality guy out there is going to have ex-girlfriends. He may or not be friends with them.
