How do TV detector vans work? Do they know what channel you’re watching, or just that you have the TV on? Jan, Mcr UK They work by detecting the electromagnetic signature that your television gives off. They are so accurate that they can tell you where in the house the TV is, and they can indeed see the channel you are watching. It was originally a PR stunt to frighten people into thinking they could be detected and then pursued for not having a TV licence. There are still no TV detector vans. The way they can tell is if you don’t pay your direct debit or move into a home which did have a TV licence but which hasn’t renewed the license. Mr Butterworth, I believe they pick up the signal from the local oscillator in your TV. When radio or television signals are transmitted the audio or video signal is superimposed on a ‘carrier wave’ – a process known as modulation. When you tune the set it is the frequency of the carrier you tune to.

His very finest work is considered to be his work on Crimea and it was regarded as the most effective work of its class. A absolutely ideal addition to a library of Fine Bindings, complete with the original and amazing looking Russian Romanov ‘Tesak’ sawback sword, bearing full Russian Romanov inspection markings, TM, a date, , plus other cyrillic markings to the blade and scabbard.
It took us quite a while to trace the swords markings in our lexicon of 19th century European swords reference works. Curiously through our research these swords that appear to have survived the war in Russia were mostly in the Russian armoury store at Sebastepol during the war, and they were ‘liberated’ by the British soldiers from the armoury, and then used against the Russians in combat by the British. Curiously this example found its way to Spain and was acquired some 50 years or so ago.
The broad slightly curved single edged blade with wide fuller on the both sides, and has a saw back-edge. The allies French, Ottoman, and British landed at Eupatoria on 14 September , intending to make a triumphal march to Sevastopol, the capital of the Crimea, with 50, men. The kilometre 35 miles traverse took a year of fighting against the Russians.

The earlier Regent Vs, , would have been past their second recertification at the time.
This includes the batch of PD2s, which must have been virtually identical to I have long been puzzled, along with folk such as you, as to the vilification of Bradford Regent Vs. Over a Regent Vs gave sterling service — and a full service life — in and around the city and were quite frankly superior to the very good PD Titans let alone the typically iffy PDR1 Atlanteans. Was there something in the Bradford air that disagreed with the Southall fuel system?
Lugar, a veteran disarmament campaigner, first suggested more than a year ago that the United States and Russia work together to secure Syria’s stockpile of chemical weapons. Tim Webber’s visual effects are nothing short of ground-breaking. Heightening the drama is the film’s deft use of sound, be it Steven Price’s orchestration or the echo of a radio frequency.

Impossible to stop or go back because it is a narrow, busy, road and parking appeared to be difficult. It appears to be fleet No. It was parked in the open air and looks a bit sad. Do you know Stokesay Court, a wonderful old mansion which lies in glorious grounds. It was taken over as a military hospital in WW1 and my Dad recuperated there from awful injuries on The Somme. The owners by the turn of the century were experiencing financial difficulty in maintaining the place, understandably, until a film company came looking for a stately home for an epic movie and Stokesay Court was chosen — so “Atonement” has to all intents and purposes saved the beautiful old place.
He was one of a group of doctors who recently called on the Medical Schools Council and the General Medical Council to address this. And they are right. The sessions are focused, but jovial, with much joking and everything taken in good humour. You may believe that the ringing is the most important element and ultimately you are right, but a social atmosphere helps towards generating good ringing. Go to Birmingham or the College Youths practice and nearly everyone goes to the pub afterwards and many continue their ringing with trips away and other social occasions that are great fun. Likewise at Pettistree and other places too.
If you create a light-hearted social environment it attracts more ringers and more often than not good ringing, which in turn usually attracts more ringers and so on.

The phrase basket-type hilts refers to a large group of hilts which provide a degree of protection to the hand and wrist. Basket-hilted swords have featured prominently among British military edged weapons over the past five centuries, from the Wars of the Roses in the mid fifteenth century to the period immediately after the second Boer War of the early twentieth century.
In setting out to give a full account of the hilt type, and the many variants within it, the first necessity has been to provide an appropriate terminology to employ in cataloguing and describing individual examples. The book, well illustrated with black and white illustrations, falls into several parts, dealing successively with general aspects of various hilt types and discussion of typological methodology, the three major groups of basket-hilted swords, the diverse group of incomplete basket hilts, ‘mortuary’ hilts, and hilts closely related to ‘mortuary’ hilts.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali Everyone followed the cartoon crisis, or the crisis about the cartoon drawings of Mohammed in Denmark. That led to an explosion of violence because large groups of Muslims still will not accept criticism of their religion. Over and over again, when in the name of Islam, human blood is shed, Muslims are very quiet. When drawings are made or some perceived slight or offences given by writing a book, or making a drawing, or in some way criticising the dogmas of Islam, people take to the streets.
We have all these leaders of the organisation of Islam, the countries who oppressed on people, coming to demand the people apologise. And I think it’s this discrepancy that more and more people see as violence and intolerance and the lack of freedom inherent in the creed of Islam. The vast majority of Muslims are said to be moderates. But where are the moderates? Where are the Muslim voices raised over the terrible injustice of incidents like these?
How many Muslims are willing to stand up and say, in the case of the girl from Qatif, that this manner of justice is appalling, brutal and bigoted — and that no matter who said it was the right thing to do, and how long ago it was said, this should no longer be done? For example, I would welcome some guidance from that famous Muslim theologian of moderation, Tariq Ramadan. But when there is true suffering, real cruelty in the name of Islam, we hear, first, denial from all these organizations that are so concerned about Islam’s image.
We hear that violence is not in the Koran, that Islam means peace, that this is a hijacking by extremists and a smear campaign and so on. But the evidence mounts up.
